Happy Tummy Porridge

Updated: Dec 3, 2018

Oats are a favourite of mine for a warming and grounding breakfast. And by adding seeds and fibres you can create an extremely soothing dish for the tummy that your friendly gut bugs and digestive system will love. Oats, chia seeds, and flax seeds are full of soluble and insoluble fibre, plant protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and what is known as 'mucilage', a slimy layer that coats the digestive tract, soothes irritation, and supports healing of the intestines.

Papaya and mango contain the protease (enzyme) actinidain that aids the breakdown of protein thereby making it easier on your system to digest, absorb and utilise the food nutrients.

Cinnamon is used in herbal medicine to support healthy blood sugar levels. It also adds a sweetness to foods thereby reducing the need for any added sugar.

Ingredients

1 cup organic oats

1 Tbsp ground flax seed

1 tsp chia seed

1 tsp ground cinnamon

2 cup preferred milk

1 handful blueberries +/or blackberries

1/2 cup chopped ripe papaya +/or mango

1 Tbsp organic sulfur-free shredded coconut

Method

1. PREPATATION

Soak oats and seeds in 1 cup of milk or water over night (do this in the same saucepan you will cook your porridge in for ease)

2. Add 1 cup milk or water to oat mix and heat on stove at medium heat

3. Stir in cinnamon

4. When porridge is heated and smooth remove from heat. You may need to add more liquid depending on your preferred porridge consistency and how long your mixture soaked for overnight.

5. Top with berries, papaya, and shredded coconut
